TEAM FOR KIDS PURPOSE

In the existence of so many of us, walking does not work. Some of us need the peace that comes after exhaustion, and the feeling awarded when we push beyond what we can. These abstractions are only real when they can be lived, and too many of our kids are not finding these pieces. Since running has constantly saved my life and the ones of so many others, I believe to be defining that our kids find the spaces where similar journeys to learn strenght and peace can begin...WE NEED YOU!

Tomorrow the first half marathon shall take place, and I will be delighted to DO MY FIRST 16 MILLER.

FUNDRAISING WISE: Please remember if there are any requests - I am not above the NASCAR ideal of covering myself in Sponsorship logos. EDUARDO has been granted the first donation so far, and in so doing he will receive the shirt I will use for the running as a token of appreciation. I am delighted to give away the TFK shorts and the shoelace TFK runner for the person whose donation hit $1000, the marathon shoes for the one hitting $2000, and the medal for the person whose donation hits $3000. We Still have a lot to raise so please remember if there are any requests - I am not above the NASCAR ideal of covering myself in Sponsorship logos. (It's intentionally written twice.)

Rockefeller park 14-mile mountain running

HIYA!

Here is the update for the running.

Sunday 6h50 found me waking up late for runnig. After conviving father to give me a ride to NYC I arrived barely on time for the train at 7h20.

So I finished my longest run yet. 14 miles felt like a very entertaining cruize after shutting down mind and stop complaining and mumbling. Here is what happend in a nutshell.

"Looking at the Garmin GPS the run was one long run up for 8 miles with
a max elevation of 540 feet, two miles of small ups and downs(with an
elevation change of 150 feet down),then 4 miles down to the river."

Thanks again for your support.

Yours in running.

Dear Friends and Family,
I'm in the midst of training for the ING New York City Marathon, which I will run on November 5, 2006. This year I'm running the race for a cause that I cherish: The New York Road Runners Foundation Team for Kids. As the youth-services arm of New York Road Runners, the NYRR Foundation provides fitness programs for 15,000 children in New York and across the country, who have little or no access to physical education.
At a time when childhood obesity is a national health crisis, leading to such diseases as diabetes and heart disease, the programs that the NYRR Foundation provides for at-risk youth are more critical than ever. Beyond teaching the importance of leading a healthy, active life, the programs also teach kids the fundamentals of nutrition, teamwork, and enable them to apply lessons of goal-setting, discipline, and motivation to their schoolwork and lives. Often, it is the first time that these children realize a direct relationship between effort and achievement.
The sport of running and Team for Kids is affording me countless opportunities to change my own life for the better. The lessons that these programs teach children are the very things that are allowing me to be healthy and successful. It seems only fair that I help give a generation of kids the same opportunities.
While my personal success in the marathon depends on my training and determination, my commitment to raise $2500 for the New York Road Runners Foundation depends on others, which is why I'm asking you to support my efforts with a donation. Your tax-deductible contribution will help pay for the supplies, uniforms, events, and transportation that make the programs happen and truly give youth a running start. I encourage you to consider a minimum gift of $1 per mile (or $26.20), though no donation is too small (or too large!) and all are appreciated.
Please take a moment to use the enclosed donation card or go to www.teamforkids.org and click on "Contribute," where you will need my entry number: #73215. The NYRR Foundation will inform me of all contributions, so I can send you a well-deserved thank you after the marathon.
At the end of 26.2 miles, I will be exhausted, but also grateful for and exhilarated by the support that I've received through your generosity.
All the best and thanks for your support!

2nd POST

Friends and Family,

Here are the Marathon updates:

On with my training. I have finally set my pace to be 9:30, and I have finally met this group’s lead caught up with the news. (cookies, and endurance for after training needed…checked!)

I am running 3-4 miles every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. My pace is constant 9:30 to 9:45. On Sunday 13th,. I was able to do my 9 mile run in spite of a sudden stillness. In addition, a challenge jumped out. I have run out of mental songs to lullaby to myself while running. My approach will be to get more acquainted with Rockies and super-hero like soundtracks to fill up the gap.

Controlling my weight, I have been reduced 5 out of the 20 pounds the summer set me up with. No more love handles for me mister! In addition, I have found a number of routes with different mileage in order to diversify the training grounds.

That‘s the marathon prep in a nutshell. I sincerely hope your love and power burns enduringly, and I certainly wish for the success of all your present projects. More importantly, I thank you for your constant support and love!

Yours in running
